AKARI 9AD // exhibition model

Design Isamu Noguchi
In 1951, Japanese-American sculptor and designer Isamu Noguchi began designing Akari Light Sculptures, an art work series, hand-made from washi paper and bamboo, which ended up including over 100 light sculptures - table, floor and ceiling lamps in all sizes and price ranges. The series he called Akari, which is the Japanese term for light and clarity.
Each Akari lamp is meticulously hand-crafted in the Ozeki workshop, a traditional family-run business in Gifu.

The lamps are iconic and have become beloved classics among design lovers around the world, and are known for their distinctive and sometimes quirky expressions. The lamps emit high quality and give a beautiful, soft and diffused light.
