Akari 55A
In 1951, Isamu Noguchi, a Japanese-American sculptor and designer, created over 100 light sculptures - ranging from small table lamps to grand floor and ceiling fixtures - using washi paper, bamboo and light. He named the series Akari, meaning "light" and "clarity" in Japanese. Located in Gifu, the Ozeki workshop is a traditional, family-run business that crafts each lamp with tremendous skill and care. The results are iconic works of art adored by design aficionados across the globe and known for their unconventional aesthetic and ability to emit a unique, softly diffused luminosity. This harmonious mix of modernist form and Japanese handcraft is truly stunning.
